Brief
description of the Agreement:
The Common
Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) comprises 21 African member
States that have agreed to promote regional integration through trade,
through the development of natural and human resources in the mutual interest
of all people in the region and through the establishment of a free trade
area that ensures the free movement of goods and services produced in COMESA
and the removal of all tariff and non-tariff barriers.
COMESA seeks
to achieve sustainable economic and social progress in all member States
through increased cooperation and integration in all areas of development,
including trade, customs and monetary affairs, transport, communication and
information, technology, industry and energy, gender, agriculture, the
environment and natural resources.
