Background Note by the Secretariat
Summary
This note is intended as a background note to inform discussion at the workshop on Aid for Trade and Services to be held on 11 July 2012; it is not an exhaustive analysis of this issue.
Trade in services is a dynamic component of global trade – and one that has been relatively neglected in the literature on trade and economic development.
In 2010, developing economies accounted for 31 per cent of world exports of commercial services. Participation by developing countries in global trade in services varies considerably by type of service and also by region. The highest export shares of developing countries are in construction and travel.
