Brief description of the notified legal text

On June 26 2024, the Government of Québec published its Regulation to amend mainly the Regulation respecting the language of commerce and business, which aligns the Regulation respecting the language of commerce and business with Québec’s Charter of the French Language, as modified by Law 14 (An Act respecting French, the official and common language of Québec).

The Regulation, which entered into force on 1 June 2025, clarifies certain French language requirements in the province of Québec, regarding the use of "generic" and "descriptive" terms in a language other than French in trademarks. The Regulation will not require the translation of trademarks into French.
