_The Industrial
Property Act 2019 entered into force on 31 January 2022. It expands
protection to include new IP rights such as utility models, plant varieties,
geographical indications, and layout-designs of integrated circuits. Key
objectives include promoting innovation and investment by providing a
holistic IP system and enabling access to international treaties like the
PCT, Madrid Protocol, and Hague Agreement. The Act establishes the new
Industrial Property Office of Mauritius (IPOM) to administer and implement
the legislation. The Act also makes provision for the establishment of a new
Intellectual Property Council to coordinate policy and enforcement.
