Nature
of the urgent problem(s) and reason for urgent action: MAFF has stipulated Bactrocera
dorsalis species complex and Erwinia
amylovora as important quarantine pests and prohibited the import
of host plants from specific countries where they are present. To prevent
the introduction of the pests into Japan, MAFF has decided to ban import of
the host plants of Bactrocera dorsalis
species complex originated in Guyana and host plants of Erwinia amylovora originated in Pakistan
and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This is an emergency action before the
enforcement of the revision of the Ordinance for Enforcement of the Plant
Protection Act based on the newly confirmed information on the outbreak and
spread of the pests.
