STATE TRADING

NEW AND FULL NOTIFICATION PURSUANT TO ARTICLE XVII:4(A) OF THE
GATT 1994 AND PARAGRAPH 1 OF THE UNDERSTANDING ON
THE INTERPRETATION OF ARTICLE XVII

South Africa

The following communication, dated and received on 23 January 2023, is being circulated at the request of the delegation of South Africa.

Pursuant to Article XVII:4(a) of the GATT 1994 and paragraph 1 of the Understanding on the Interpretation of Article XVII, and in response to the calls for notifications contained in documents _G/STR/N/18, _G/STR/N/19 and _G/STR/N/20, the Republic of South Africa wishes to notify the Council for Trade in Goods that during the years 2018 to 2023, the Government of South Africa did not maintain state trading enterprises within the meaning of the working definition contained in paragraph 1 of the above-mentioned Understanding.
