ORAL REPORT BY THE CHAIRPERSON, AMBASSADOR ALI SARFRAZ HUSSAIN

Introduction

1._       I would like to extend a warm welcome to all delegations attending either physically or virtually our first CoA-SS meeting since the summer break.

2._       As indicated in my convening messages, circulated on 30 June and 4 September, and in the absence of any submissions from Members, this meeting will be structured as flows:

3._       I will first report on the consultations I have held since the summer break and share with you my overall assessment of the state of the negotiations.

4._       I will then invite the Secretariat to make two presentations on Market Access, as agreed at the June CoA-SS meeting:

·_              first, on the history of market access negotiations since 1995;

·_              second, on Market Access for Agricultural Products in Regional Trade Agreements.

5._       Following these two presentations, I will provide Members with an opportunity to react and make comments about the presentations, and I will let the presenters respond to any questions.

6._       I will then again open the floor to Members to hear their views in respect of ongoing consultations, the way forward and expectations for MC14.

7._       Following this meeting, we will turn to the two Dedicated Sessions on Public Stockholding for Food Security Purposes and on the Special Safeguard Mechanism, to have more focussed discussions on these topics.
