Committee on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures - EU legislation on endocrine disruptors - Specific trade concern 382 - Submission by the United States of America

EU LEGISLATION ON ENDOCRINE DISRUPTORS

– SPECIFIC TRADE CONCERN 382

SUBMISSION BY THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

The following submission, received on 2 July 2025, is the statement made by the United States of America at the 18-19 June 2025 WTO SPS Committee, and is being circulated at the request of the Delegation of the United States of America.

_______________

1.  The United States supports the concerns raised by Brazil, Paraguay, and other Members on this issue.

2.  The United States urges the European Commission to provide scientific justification for its MRL reductions – justification that is based on specific health risks to consumers, and not merely on the identification of potential hazards.

3.  Additionally, the United States notes that the European Union's hazard-based cut-off criteria, including endocrine disrupting properties, are not a part of Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 governing the establishment of pesticide MRLs.

4.  We once again urge the European Union to reconsider its approach and ensure that its SPS measures are based on scientific evidence and specific health risks to consumers.
