NOTIFICATION PURSUANT TO ARTICLE 12.1(C)
OF THE AGREEMENT ON SAFEGUARDS

Philippines

High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pellets and granules

Supplement

The following communication, dated and received on 18 July 2025, is being circulated at the request of the delegation of the Philippines.[1]

_______________

The Philippines hereby informs the membership of the WTO that its competent authority notifies the suspension of the definitive general safeguard measure on the importation of High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pellets and granules (AHTN 2017 Code 3901.20.00) from various countries.

This action is being undertaken to secure the domestic supply of plastic resins following the JG Summit Olefins Corporation's (JGSOC) announcement of indefinite commercial shutdown of its petrochemical business.

The suspension shall be effective for the remaining period of the imposition or until such time that JGSOC resumes its normal operations, whichever comes earlier. The period of imposition of the safeguard measure shall automatically terminate, unless extended pursuant to Section 19 of the Safeguard Measures Act (RA 8800).
