REQUEST FOR CONSULTATIONS UNDER ARTICLE 12.3
OF THE AGREEMENT ON SAFEGUARDS

The following communication, dated and received on 4 March 2024, is being circulated at the request of the delegation of Japan.

On 21 February 2024, the United Kingdom submitted to the WTO Committee on Safeguards notifications pursuant to Articles 12.1(b) of the Agreement on Safeguards concerning its decision to extend the safeguard measure on certain steel imports.

Having a substantial interest, Japan requests consultations with the United Kingdom under Article 12.3 of the Agreement on Safeguards, with a view to, inter alia, reviewing the information provided under Article 12.2 of the Agreement on Safeguards and exchanging views on the extension of the measures.

Japan suggests holding the consultations mentioned above virtually via Microsoft Teams meetings as soon as practicable, and looks forward to receiving the United Kingdom's response to this request.

Japan reserves all its rights under the WTO Agreements.
