World Trade Organization TN/CTD/W/29 9 June 2006 (06-2768) Committee on Trade and Development Special Session Original: English ANALYSIS OF THE TWENTY-EIGHT AGREEMENT-SPECIFIC PROPOSALS Communication by Kenya on behalf of the African Group The following communication is being circulated at the request of the Delegation of Kenya on behalf of the African Group. _______________ Introduction Although developing countries account for more than three-fourths of the membership of the WTO, their share in world trade is around 30 per cent. The share of the majority of developing countries has stagnated or decreased, notwithstanding the implementation of far-reaching reforms in the last twenty years. The share of least-developed countries (LDCs) in world trade is less than 0.5 per cent, while the share of African countries is around 2 per cent. The inability of most developing countries, particularly African countries to benefit from the multilateral
