Brief description of the Agreement:

Pursuant to the Interim Agreement leading to formation of a free trade area between the Eurasian Economic Union and its Member States, of the one part, and the Islamic Republic of Iran, of the other part, as of the 17th of May 2018 the parties have signed a Free Trade Agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union and its Member States, of the one part, and the Islamic Republic of Iran, of the other part, (hereinafter – Agreement) which establishes a Free Trade Area in accordance with international rules, standards and practices.

The Agreement covers trade in industrial and agricultural goods.

As for the EAEU tariff commitments, free trade area currently covers 87% of the tariff nomenclature and as for the I.R.Iran tariff commitments the preferences cover 88% of the tariff nomenclature.  

Based on the trade statistics the Agreement provides with the preference regime more than 85% of trade turnover between the EAEU Member States and I.R.Iran.

Along with tariff commitments, the Agreement includes regulatory provisions in such areas as Trade Remedies, TBT, SPS, Customs Administration and Trade Facilitation, Rules of Origin, Sectoral Cooperation, Government Procurement and Dispute Settlement.

The Agreement establishes a Joint Committee, which supervises the implementation of the Agreement. A Business dialogue is being established by the Agreement to make proposals on the matters, which require consideration at the level of the Joint Committee.
