Brief description of the Agreement:
The
Agreement establishes a free trade area for trade in goods and services
within the meaning of GATT 1994 Article XXIV and GATS Article V. The
Agreement contains initial provisions and general definitions, provisions on
national treatment and market access for goods, rules of origin, customs
procedures and trade facilitation, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, technical
barriers to trade, trade remedies, government procurement, investment, cross–border
trade in services, temporary entry of business persons, telecommunications,
electronic commerce, intellectual property rights, trade and environment,
transparency, technological cooperation, competition, administration of the
agreement, dispute settlement, exceptions, and final provisions. The
Agreement establishes a Joint Committee, which has authority regarding the
implementation, interpretation, modification, and amendment of the Agreement.
