Title,
number of pages and language(s) of the notified document: Specification for the Storage, handling and transportation of
steel compressed gas cylinders; (11 page(s), in English)
|
6.
|
Description
of content: This draft standard is
a revision of, and will supersede, GYS
453:2021. It specifies the minimum requirements for the storage, handling and
vehicular transport of steel high pressure compressed gas cylinders and
acetylene. This standard does not cover the storage, handling and transport
of ammonia cylinders.
The revised
standard is intended to be mandatory and aims to guide consumers,
manufacturers, importers, and handlers of steel compressed gas cylinders by
outlining clear safety requirements. Furthermore, it will serve as a
regulatory tool for agencies and stakeholders involved in the regulation and
importation of LPG cylinders, helping to limit or prevent defective or
non-compliant products on the local market. This revision also aims to raise
consumer awareness and safety for everyone who uses these cylinders.
|
7.
|
Objective
and rationale, including the nature of urgent problems where applicable: The objective and rationale for the revision stem from recent
incidents involving explosions, injuries, and property damage linked to LPG
cylinders. These incidents highlighted the urgent need to improve safety
measures and technical standards to better protect both users and the general
public.
