REPORT (2023) OF THE COMMITTEE ON TECHNICAL BARRIERS TO TRADE

1.  The Committee held its 89^th, 90^th and 91^st regular meetings on 8-10 March, 21-23 June, and 8‑10 November 2023, respectively. The 89^th meeting was chaired by Mr Anwar Hussain Shaik (India) and the 90^th and 91^st meetings were chaired by Ms Anna Vitie (Finland).

2.  During these meetings^[1], the Committee:

a._    heard statements from Members regarding measures taken to ensure the implementation and administration of the TBT Agreement under Article 15.2. In total, since 1995, 145 Members have submitted at least one such statement;

b._    with respect to notifications[2]:

i._     received 1,903 new notifications from Members;

ii._    received 1,279 follow-up notifications (addenda, corrigenda, revisions) from Members;

c._    with respect to specific trade concerns:

i._     discussed 34 new specific trade concerns;

ii._    discussed 172 previously raised specific trade concerns;

d._    took note of the 28^th Annual Review under Article 15.3 (_G/TBT/50)[3]; and,

e._    held thematic sessions on Regulatory Cooperation between Members on Plastic Regulation[4] and on Climate Change[5] in March, on Regulatory Cooperation between Members on Intangible Digital Products[6] and on Cybersecurity[7] in June, and, on the Use of Digital Technologies and Tools in Good Regulatory Practices and on Conformity assessment and e-commerce, in November[8].

3.  At the meetings held in 2023, representatives of ARSO, BIPM, the Codex Alimentarius Commission, IEC, ISO, OIML, UNECE, UNIDO and WHO updated the Committee on their activities relevant to the work of the TBT Committee, including on technical assistance.
