Thematic Session on Digital Tools

The following submission, received on 19 April 2024, is being circulated at the request of the delegation of the United States of America.

1.  The United States would like to propose the following topics for the Thematic Session on the topic of digital tools to be held prior to the June 2024 meeting of the WTO SPS Committee:

(a)_  Discussion of international standards and frameworks for digitalization by IPPC, Codex and WOAH. Discussion points could include the current IPPC e-Phyto solution and other platforms being considered or developed;

(b)_  e-Phyto experience sharing presentations from Members and from private sector stakeholders, with a particular focus on strategies employed to overcome barriers to adoption;

(c)_  Electronic certification of animal products for human consumption;

(d)_  The use of artificial intelligence (AI) or machine learning for the digitization of food product import processes;

(e)_  Moderated session with five-six Members to share thoughts and reflections on how the Committee and Members used digital tools to function during the COVID-19 pandemic.

2.  The United States would be available to suggest speakers for topics b-e listed above.
