Foreign Minister
David Lin has said that Taiwan wants to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership
(TPP) at the right time. Lin made the comment during a meeting with CNN
executives at the TV network's headquarters in Atlanta on Thursday.
The foreign
minister said Taiwan and the United States restarted negotiations on the Trade
and Investment Framework Agreements (TIFA) last March. This shows that trade
ties between the two sides have become closer. Lin also said that Taiwan is
prepared to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) when the time is right in
order to further participate in regional economic integration.
The TPP is a
multilateral free trade agreement involving 12 Pacific Rim countries.
Foreign Minister
Lin is also attending the American Enterprise Institute World Forum in Sea
Island, Georgia.
