Balance-of-Payments Restrictions
This report has been prepared pursuant to the Procedures for an Annual Overview of WTO Activities and for Reporting Under the WTO (WT/L/105).
Following the notification by Ecuador on 18 February 2009 (WTO document WT/BOP/N/65) that it had applied measures for balance-of-payments purposes, the Committee held consultations with Ecuador on 22 and 24 April, and 2-4 June under the Chairmanship of Ambassadors Balihuta (Uganda) and Mwape (Zambia). In accordance with the commitments undertaken during the above mentioned consultations, Ecuador agreed to replace most of the quantitative restrictions for price-based measures no later than 1 September 2009 and to progressively modify the level and scope of the measures as its balance of payments situation improved.
