JOINT COMMUNICATION FROM BRAZIL AND THE European Union

Certain ferro-alloying elements

The following communication, dated and received on 23 December 2025, is being circulated at the request of the delegation of Brazil.

On 12 November 2025, the European Union submitted to the WTO Committee on Safeguards a notification pursuant to Article 12 of the Agreement on Safeguards concerning a finding of serious injury or threat thereof and a proposed safeguard measure regarding imports of certain ferro‑alloying elements (_G/SG/N/8/EU/2 - _G/SG/N/10/EU/2 - _G/SG/N/11/EU/2).

On 8 December 2025, Brazil submitted to the WTO Committee on Safeguards a notification pursuant to Article 12.3 of the Agreement on Safeguards, with a view to, inter alia, reviewing the information provided under Article 12.2 and exchanging views on the measure (_G/SG/342).

On 17 December 2025, the proposed consultations were initiated in a virtual setting. At the end of the meeting, both parties agreed to continue the bilateral discussions through a second round of consultations on a mutually agreed-upon date and time in January 2026.
