The following communication, dated and received on 24 April 2024, is being circulated at the request of the delegation of Mauritius.

Question 1

Could Mauritius please clarify the eligibility criteria for fishers who benefit from this program?

Reply:

To be eligible for the bad weather allowance under the program of assistance to artisanal Fishermen, there are four criteria that apply.

i._          The fisher should be registered at the Ministry of Blue Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries and Shipping.

ii._         The Bad Weather Day should be forecast by the Mauritius Meteorological Station.

iii._        There must be attendance of the fishermen at their respective Fisheries Post and

iv._       The Fisherman Card must have been stamped at the Fish Landing Station for at least one month immediately preceding the month of payment.

Question 2

Does this program provide benefits to fishers engaged in marine capture fishing?

Reply:

Yes, Artisanal fishers benefit from a subsistence allowance to support them for the number of bad weather days at the rate of MUR 650 per day or approximately USD 13.9 at today's rate.
