Report by the Chairman, Ambassador Manzoor Ahmad,
to the Trade Negotiations Committee
The Special Session of the Council for TRIPS has pursued, in formal meetings and informal consultations, its negotiations on the establishment of a multilateral system of notification and registration of geographical indications for wines and spirits, as mandated by the first sentence of paragraph 18 of the Doha Declaration. This report on these negotiations is submitted on the Chairman's own responsibility.
There has been some increase in the level of activity in the Special Session in the last few months, as shown by two new submissions spelling out in legal form proposals for a multilateral system of notification and registration of geographical indications for wines and spirits – one a
