OF THE TRIPS AGREEMENT

At its meetings of May, July and September 1996, the Council for TRIPS considered whether there were any technical difficulties with meeting the requirement to notify laws and regulations corresponding to the provisions of Articles 3, 4 and 5 of the Agreement on national and MFN treatment. At the September meeting, the Council concluded that this matter should be approached on the basis of a range of options between which Members could choose in making their notifications. In respect of one of these options, namely making a general statement that nationals of other WTO Members enjoy national and MFN treatment and listing any exceptions to that principle, it was further agreed that the Secre
