STATUS OF IMPLEMENTATION
Note by the Secretariat
Revision
As of 21 October 1997, the ITA had 28 participants (covering 43 Members and States or separate customs territories in the process of acceding to the WTO) representing approximately 93 percent of world trade in information technology products. Out of these 28, the formal rectification and modification documents of the following 20 participants have been received and circulated:
Australia Indonesia Philippines
Canada Israel Poland1
Costa Rica Japan Singapore
European Communities Korea Thailand1
Hong Kong, China Macau Turkey
Iceland Malaysia United States
India Norway
Of the above India, Israel, Poland and Turkey had indicated that implementation would begin after the completion of domestic procedural requirements. Notification has been given by India and Israel that these procedural requirements have been completed.
Of the participants that have not yet submitted their schedules, Estonia and the Separate Customs Territory of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu are not currently Members of the WTO and are therefore not expected to submit documentation for rectification or modification of schedules. For Romania and Switzerland the first rate reduction is scheduled to take place on 31 December 1997; and for the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic the first rate reduction is scheduled to take place on 1 January 1998. El Salvador and New Zealand have not yet submitted their formal documentation.
3. Letters of acceptance, in accordance with the provision of paragraph 10 of the Annex to the Declaration on Trade in Information Technology Products, have been received from all participants except one.
4. Internet derestriction authorization has been received for ten schedules, and these have been posted
