Description of content: Ministry of
Commerce, in exercising the power conferred under sub-section (b) of Section
83 of the Consumer Protection Law, issues the Directive for entrepreneurs to
comply regarding the labelling of vegetable oil, cooking oil as follows:
(a) In accordance with the
Section 1(b) of the Consumer Protection Law, provisions related with
labelling in Chapter 18 came into effect on 16 March 2020 one year after the
date of promulgation of the Law.
(b) The Directive mentions that
the type of some edible oil on the market are described as vegetable oil,
cooking oil and that description "vegetable oil, cooking oil" is
not a type of goods according to labelling provisions.
(c) Therefore, the entrepreneurs must comply with the followings
regarding the labelling of vegetable oil, cooking oil:
(a) The type of the goods based on the original ingredient must be
specified in Myanmar Language (Example: Vegetable Oil (Palm Oil) or Vegetable
Oil (refined Palm Oil)
(b) The net amount and size of the goods must be expressed in Myanmar
Weight Unit such as Viss/ Kyattha in Myanmar Language.
(d)
The entrepreneurs who does not comply the above-mentioned paragraph (c) shall
be punished in accordance with the Consumer Protection Law.
