Objective and rationale, including the nature of urgent problems where applicable: To standardize the Compressed Earth Blocks sector in The Gambia and to be used as a tool for training of masons, stakeholders and promotion of Compressed Earth Blocks amongst the general population. As earth masonry (earth building technology) emerges as a sustainable material for affordable and high-quality dwellings and forms an integral part of the building industry, standardizing this sector becomes pertinent. Currently, manufacturers and building enterprises which have adopted this technology nevertheless still find themselves facing problems of acceptance of the material due to the absence of normative documents.
