Communication
from Costa Rica
The following communication, dated 19 December
2019, from the delegation of Costa Rica to the delegation of the European Union,
and the delegation of Indonesia, is circulated to the Dispute Settlement Body
in accordance with Article 4.11 of the DSU.
_______________
Pursuant to Article 4.11 of the Understanding on Rules and Procedures Governing the Settlement of
Disputes, the Government of Costa Rica notifies the consulting
Members and the Dispute Settlement Body of its desire to be joined in the
consultations requested by the Government of Indonesia, in European Union –
Certain Measures Concerning Palm Oil and Oil Palm Crop-Based Biofuels (DS593).
This request for consultations was circulated to WTO Members on 16 December
2019 (WT/DS593/1).
Costa Rica has a substantial
trade interest in these consultations as our country is a producer and exporter
of palm oil. The production of palm oil exceeded 250 thousand metric tons in
2018, of which nearly 85% is exported. In monetary terms, Costa Rica's exports
of palm oil represented more than USD135 million.
The Government of Costa Rica
looks forward to your reply.
