Communication from Cuba

            The following communication, dated 1 May 2001, from the Permanent Mission of Cuba to the Permanent Mission of Chile, the Permanent Mission of Colombia and to the Chairman of the Dispute Settlement Body, is circulated in accordance with Article 4.11 of the DSU.

            In accordance with Article 4.11 of the Understanding on Rules and Procedures Governing the Settlement of Disputes (DSU), the Government of Cuba hereby notifies its wish to be joined in the consultations requested by the Government of Colombia pursuant to Article 4 of the DSU and Article XXII of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade 1994 concerning safeguard measures and modification of schedules regarding sugar, document WT/DS230/1 of 23 April 2001.

            Cuba considers that it has a substantial trade interest in the matter. 

            We would be grateful to be informed of the date and place of the consultations.
