Communication from Nicaragua
The
following communication, dated 3 May 2001, from the Permanent Mission of
Nicaragua to the Permanent Mission of Chile, the Permanent Mission of Colombia
and to the Chairman of the Dispute Settlement Body, is circulated in accordance
with Article 4.11 of the DSU.

On
instructions from my authorities, I wish to inform you that my Government has
decided to join the request for consultations addressed by Colombia to your
Government concerning safeguard measures and modification of schedules
regarding sugar, as circulated in document WT/DS230/1 of 23 April 2001,
replacing document WT/DS228/1.
Taking
into account the importance of the sugar industry as a source of employment and
income in my country, we reiterate our trade and systemic interest in
participating in the consultations in accordance with Article 4.11 of the
Understanding on Rules and Procedures Governing the Settlement of Disputes
(DSU).
