argentina - safeguard measures on imports of
footwear
Communication from Indonesia
The
following communication, dated 10 May 1999, from the Permanent Mission of
Indonesia to the Chairman of the Dispute Settlement Body, is circulated to
Members at the request of that delegation.
_______________
I
have the honour to inform you that the Government of the Republic of Indonesia
hereby withdraws from the agenda for the meeting of the Dispute Settlement Body
scheduled to be held on 26 May 1999 the request for the establishment of a
panel in Argentina - Safeguard Measures on Imports of Footwear (WT/DS123/3,
dated 16 April 1999).
My
authorities have taken this decision based upon the interventions of the
delegations of Argentina and the European Communities during the discussion of
this matter at the meeting of the Dispute Settlement Body held on 28 April 1999
regarding developments in a related panel proceeding. Furthermore, my authorities have taken this
decision with the reservation of all rights under the Understanding on Rules
and Procedures Governing the Settlement of Disputes with respect to the request
for establishment of a panel, and the understanding that, should Indonesia
choose to include the request as an item on the agenda of a future meeting of
the Dispute Settlement Body, the Dispute Settlement Body shall treat the agenda
item as its second consideration of the request and establish a panel at that meeting
pursuant to Article 6.1 of the Understanding.
