                                                     Communication from Mexico

        The following communication, dated 20 June 1997, from the Permanent Mission of Mexico to the Permanent Delegation of the European Commission, the Permanent Mission of Chile and to the Dispute Settlement Body, is circulated in accordance with Article 4.11 of the DSU.

        I have been instructed by my authorities to inform you that, pursuant to Article 4.11 of the Dispute Settlement Understanding, Mexico wishes to be joined in the consultations requested by the European Community with Chile under Article XXII of GATT 1994 (document WT/DS87/1 of 11 June 1997), owing to Mexico's substantial trade interest in this matter.
