Brief description of the notified legal text

 

The aim of this text adopted by the Central African Republic falls within the framework of the implementation of the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights by WTO Members.

 

(Article 2 of the Order)

 

The objective of the Committee is to:

 

-        Identify agricultural, artisanal, fishery and livestock products that could benefit from protection by a geographical indication;

 

-        promote a policy organizing producers into structures able to identify, produce and ensure the protection and defence of their products recognized as having a geographical indication;

 

-        assist producer organizations in demarcating production areas, defining mandatory rules for the production, processing and preparation of their products, and establishing an internal control system;

 

-        train and raise awareness among producers to enable them to take ownership of geographical indications and other intellectual property assets;

-        encourage the organization and/or strengthening of structures for the control and monitoring of geographical indications at the national and/or regional level; and

 

-        participate actively in the WTO discussions on increasing the international protection of geographical indications.
