Brief description of the Agreement: The Agreement covers provisions that will improve trade relations in
respect of tariff preferences, rules of origin, sanitary and
phytosanitary measures, technical barriers to trade, trade defence,
dispute settlement, and trade cooperation. It also establishes the institutions
in charge of administering the Agreement and their responsibilities. The Agreement has the following objectives: ·
To strengthen existing trade
relations between the Parties through the granting of tariff preferences
and the elimination of non-tariff restrictions in bilateral trade, with a
view to creating and increasing, on a predictable, transparent and permanent
basis, trading opportunities for the Parties through the complementarity of
their two economies.
·
To set up trade promotion and
information programmes, thus facilitating official and private trade missions
and the organization of trade fairs, exhibitions, information seminars,
market research and other activities aimed at the improved utilization
of tariff preferences and trade opportunities. ·
The Parties to the Agreement
recognize the importance of scientific and technological cooperation,
innovation, and the transfer of knowledge for furthering social and economic
development. Accordingly, they will promote the training of specialists,
the sharing of information and experiences relating to scientific
research, mutual assistance for technological development, productivity and
other aspects, while fostering the creation of strategic alliances between
public and private entities for these and other activities in sectors of interest
to them. |
