IMPOSE A PROVISIONAL SAFEGUARD MEASURE
BY THE PHILIPPINES ON IMPORTS OF PASSENGER CARS/
VEHICLES AND LIGHT COMMERCIAL VEHICLES
Request for consultations under Article 12.4
of the Agreement on Safeguards
The following communication, dated 11 February 2021, is being circulated at the request of the delegation of Japan.
On 7 January 2021, the Philippines notified the WTO Committee on Safeguards under Articles 12.1(b) and 12.4 of the WTO Agreement on Safeguards before taking a provisional safeguard measure on passenger cars/vehicles and light commercial vehicles.
Japan requests consultations with the Philippines pursuant to Article 12.4 of the WTO Agreement on Safeguards as soon as possible, as a Member having a substantial interest as an exporter of the products concerned.
The aim of the consultations is, inter alia, to exchange views and seek clarification regarding the measure and reaching an understanding on ways to achieve the objectives set out in Article 8.1 of the WTO Agreement on Safeguards.
Japan suggests holding the consultations as soon as possible and looks forward to a positive response by the Philippines in order to set a mutually convenient date and venue for these consultations.
Japan reserves all its rights under the WTO Agreements.
