Description of content: The notice relates to the decision taken in regard to Tomato Brown Rugose fruit virus (Tobamovirus - ToBRFV) which was reported in Turkey.

Seychelles Biosecurity Agency has decided to implement measures to prevent the entry, establishment and spread of the virus in Seychelles.

With immediate effect, all consignment of tomato entering Seychelles from Turkey shall:

-        Come from Green House production only.

-        Tested, declared and certified free from Tobamovirus - ToBRFV

Objective and rationale: [ ] food safety, [ ] animal health, [X] plant protection, [X] protect humans from animal/plant pest or disease, [X] protect territory from other damage from pests.

Nature of the urgent problem(s) and reason for urgent action: Urgent measures have been implemented to manage the phytosanitary risks associated with the introduction, establishment and spread of the tomato disease (Tomato Brown Rugose fruit virus (Tobamovirus -ToBRFV) from Turkey to Seychelles. The disease will have a negative impact on the local tomato production and other solanaceous crop both on the farms and in the environment.
