Title, number of pages and language(s) of the notified document: Draft Philippine National Standard (DPNS) 2104:2014 Standard Specification for Plastics that Degrade in the Environment by a Combination of Oxidation and Biodegradation.

Description of content: This notification covers plastics and products made from plastics that are designed to degrade in disposal environments such as in soil and in sanitary landfill by a combination of oxidation and biodegradation.

This is intended to establish the requirements for labelling of materials and products, including packaging from plastics as "oxo-biodegradable".

The properties in this notification are those required to determine if plastics and plastic products will degrade by a combination of oxidation and biodegradation.

This does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory requirements prior to use.

·         PNS 2092:2011 – Standard Guide for Exposing and Testing Plastics that Degrade in the Environment by a Combination of Oxidation and Biodegradation PNS ASTM D 5526:2011 ASTM Published 1994 (Reapproved 2011) Standard Test Method for Determining Aneorobic Biodegradation of Plastic Materials Under Accelerated Landfill Conditions.

·         PNS ASTM D 5988:2011 (ASTM Published 2003) Standard Test Method for Determining Aerobic Biodegradation in Soil of Plastic Materials or Residual Plastic Materials after Composting.

·         ASTM D 883 Terminology Relating to Plastics.

·         ISO 472:2013 Plastics vocabulary.

·         SPCR 141 Polymeric waste degradable by abiotic and subsequent biological degradation (A+B degradable – Requirements and test methods.)
