The representative of India explained that the process was on-going and that no decision had been taken yet about deleting specific products. Secondly, he explained that the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) reviewed standards on a regular basis and international standards were normally benchmarked. However, he noted that the end use of galvanized steel was mostly in the rural areas where public health and safety were an important issue, and thus justified a specific standard.
