The present document reproduces the introductory statement made by the delegation of Bahrain , the questions put to it and the responses given in connection with the review of legislation undertaken at the Council's meeting of 18 to 22 June 2001.

introductory statement
Bahrain had its first intellectual property legislation as early as 1955 when it enacted a Law on Patents, Designs and Trademarks. That was a time when Bahrain's population was barely around 130,000. In 1977, Bahrain introduced certain revisions to that law and in 1991 it introduced a copyright law followed in 1993 by a dedicated, enhanced and comprehensive trademarks law.
