British Foreign
Secretary Liz Truss says that G7 countries are concerned over China’s
“coercive” economic policies. That came during a speech at a G7 meeting in
Liverpool on Sunday. Truss also says that G7 countries are also concerned about
peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
Top officials from
G7 economies US, France, Germany, Italy, Canada, Japan and the EU met at the
event. Also present were representatives from Australia and South Korea, who
are not part of the political forum.
Taiwan’s foreign
ministry says that Sunday marked the third time a British official highlighted
peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait this year. However, it marked the
first time in 2021 that the UK spoke about China’s economic coercion.
Truss said that,
besides the Taiwan Strait, the three-day meeting covered other China-related
issues and challenges, including Hong Kong, Xinjiang, and the South China Sea.
