President Tsai
Ing-wen says that Taiwan needs to further develop its green energy usage. Tsai
made these comments on Thursday. She said that using renewable energy sources
is critical to Taiwan's semiconductor industry.
Tsai says that if
the country wants to continue to dominate the semiconductor market
internationally, it needs to switch to green energy. The government has been
strongly promoting renewable energy since 2016, and Tsai says that Taiwan has
progressed in terms of solar and wind energy.
The economics
ministry has set up a platform to make the exchange of green energy more
efficient and accessible. This is not only important for Taiwan’s semiconductor
industry, but also for the general public's energy consumption. Taiwan's
current goal is to use solar energy to produce 20 GigaWatts by 2025.
Tsai says the
government is working to make Taiwan's power network more stable and flexible.
She says she hopes that the public will be supportive of the mission to build a
system based on renewable energy sources. Tsai says committing to green energy
will help ensure Taiwan's strong foundation and competitive edge in the
international community for the future.
