Taiwan was ranked
as the fourth best investment destination in the world. That’s according to a survey by the US-based
Business Environment Risk Intelligence (BERI). Taiwan was previously ranked
third among 50 countries.
This year, Taiwan
finished behind Switzerland, Norway and South Korea but ranked ahead of
Singapore, China, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines, India
and Thailand.
BERI uses three
indicators to assess a nation’s investment risk: operations risk, political
risk and a remittance and repatriation factor. Taiwan placed first in the
remittance and repatriation category.
Taiwan remained in
third place in operations risk, which is the same rank as Australia, and behind
the US and Switzerland.
In terms of
political risk, Taiwan dropped seven spots to 21st. It also finished seventh in
Asia, behind Singapore, China, South Korea, Japan, Vietnam and Indonesia.
Taiwan also had
the top ranking in four sub-indices: accumulated international reserves,
foreign exchange generation, foreign debt assessment, and legal framework.
